Cross Drilled Rotors - How effective are they?
Thursday, January 8th, 2009I got these couple of shots from a customer’s R35 GTR. He has gone for a couple of track events and we observed that the stock rotors were starting to show signs of wear on them. More specifically, cracks are initiating from the cross-drilled holes.

From pervious race brakes / big brake kit setup, we all know that the cross-drilled rotors do not last up to as much abuse as slotted or plain rotors. I am surprised that Nissan will choose to use drilled rotors on their flagship supercar. Well, in all honesty, even Porsche factory brakes are cross drilled… so are the Merc S-Class. Maybe Brembo had the holes casted while in production and has extra “meat” in there to sustain the higher temperature and stress over drilling them outright. However, it does not seem to be working that well on these cars.
We will be putting on a set of 2 piece full floating Performance Friction rotors on the R35 once the stock arrives.
