Wiseco Pistons new stock arrival

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Now available, full range of Wiseco pistons that suits most of the Sport Compact engines.  One of the best forged pistons available in the market, and definitely a necessary power upgrade for high horsepower gains.

All pistons have skirts coated for reduced friction and better heat management.

We stock custom pistons for newer cars like the Mitsubishi Colt 4G15T, to the older Toyota 4E/5E Engines.

We are your solution for the best price on Wiseco Pistons!

RG suspension - FD2 type R

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

As this FD2 is still rather new, not that many companies are making suspension that are tried and tested.  In all honesty, I would rather opt for a European brand suspension which I am familiar with.  But my regular supplier who supplies to some of the European race team still does not have anything available.  I guess an off the shelf part will suffice for now.  Pretty sure it will be better than the stock suspension.

 Here are some pictures, enjoy!

New product - Hondata FD2 Type R Reflash

We are glad to be associated with Hondata for this product.  Before this product was launched, Driven was tasked to do some testing for the FD2 Type R ECU.  Countless hours were spent on the dyno and tuning to achieve what we got now.  The Hondata FD2 Type R Reflash!  Great power gains, and good fuel economy.  That’s what it is all about.

9 June Sepang Trackday

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I finally did it!  I beat Yak’s quickest time (well, just barely) in Sepang.

He did it in his EG with K20A, and i did it in my DC5 with K20A too!!

Well, it wasn’t a all smooth sailing trackday.  I too had some share of “mishaps”.

Busted tires!

But it was lucky we had some hindsight and brought along 4 more spares, or else, we can kiss goodbye to the trackday.

Going to do some new alignment settings to the car, and hopefully be back with some improved timings!!

Thanks for reading.

P.S  I want to say thank you to Eric of Avantgarde Mechanic who was helping me throughout the event.  With changing of tires, checking tire pressure, adjusting alignments, suspension and all the necessities that a good track mechanic will take care of.  I highly recommend them to anyone who needs any work done to their Hondas.

Where did you learn to drive like that?!?!

Does this look familiar to you?

Oh well, perhaps not… it is not everyday that we see a smashed up head from an over-rev situation. This is clearly a case of valves (intake and/or exhaust) and pistons hitting each other, leaving behind a mangled heap of metal.

Anyway, this happened to a customer who bought a used Euro R and have been driving it for 2 months now. One evening, I got a call from him and he said that his engine has seized and was unable to start the car. After much troubleshooting or whatever that could be done over the phone, I realized what he meant was that the engine will not even turn over when he tried to crank start it. We had no other choice but to get the car tow back to the workshop and take a look at it the next day.

When we had the car back at the workshop, we tried to remove the spark plugs so that we can insert a scope to have a peep at what is wrong in there. 1 of the spark plug would not even come loose. HONG KANG LIAOS. This time owner is going to pay A LOT TO FIX IT.

So, immediately, we gave a call to the owner to find out what the actual scenario was that could have caused a case of engine failure as such… Now, here is where it gets interesting.

Excerpts from conversation with car owner, AKA 2 stroke motorbike racer:

I was driving happily along the highway, then this EG Civic come and push me, %^&*. So?! I gave chase chase la, cannot be that my K20A lose to his B16A right? Then we play till about 170km/h like that, but I still cannot overtake him. So I drop my gears, FROM 5TH TO 3RD gear, so that will have some more power to overtake him. (WTF!! Whoever taught you to drive like that?! You think you playing Daytona Arcade games!??!) And then, I hear some noise from engine, then engine seize already. Like that time my bike never put enough 2T like that. #$^#$&!!!

After hearing the story, I really don’t know if to laugh or to sympathize with him. But I hope this will teach us all something. That is, there is a proper traveling speed for the right gear vs engine RPM. Dropping of gear is not equal to “power boost button” that is going to propel you ahead and reel the front car in.
